Tour News And Preview Demo Track

Dear Alvin & Freda,

We’ve been a bit quiet so far this year with the band because we’ve been writing new stuff, working on bits and bobs, and all that... however, Bern’s gone and planned a tour so we have some live dates coming up:

On 3rd May we’re in Sheffield, at West Street Live. It's a great student music venue and we’ll be on about 8:30pm. It’s a free gig (hooray for you lot!) and there will be a couple of other acts playing (Facebook link).

Then hot on the heels of that we're heading over to Selby on 12th May for the Riverside venue, again we'll be on around 8pm. This one’s free, and we’re supporting an 80s tribute band Idlefish. Again, here's a Facebook link.

We’ve been asked a lot to do a gig 'dahn sarf', and finally we’re playing in London at Underbelly in Hoxton Square, on Wednesday 16th May. This is a ticketed gig, it's £6 in and you can get tix in advance from this link.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE... In anticipation of our upcoming tour type thing we're making a demo of our new unreleased track Dad Dancing available for you to listen to, TODAY ONLY 19TH APRIL 2012 until 4pm:

Widget sometimes doesn't appear, so you can listen direct on Soundcloud by clicking here. Go on, get your dad-funk on :)

Don't forget you can always catch up with our gigs on our official gig guide. Stay funky :)

Posted by capnb at 12:13 19 Apr 2012 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Happy New 2012 You Lot

Well, hello and a belated Happy New Year to you all!

A new year will see Obvious Pseudonym breaking new ground, and hopefully stretching our wings. We've conquered Wakefield already - this year THE WORLD!

*Cough*

Anyway, we're definitely looking to gig a lot further afield this year, and really picking up the pace - exciting times are afoot, and obviously we will let you lot know the very second that we get confirmation from venues.

In the meantime, for a new year we've gone for a new look - not only has the band itself gone for a brand new look on-stage (check out Dr Rock's mask!) that worked so well in December that we've decided to keep it permanently but we've also given the website a wash and brush-up. It's more spangly. It's more colourful. And it makes it even easier for you to listen to a couple of Obvious Pseudonym's most popular tracks *For Free*! Not only that, but you lovely people can also download "Baby Baby" to get the full-on Obvious Pseudonym experience whenever you feel like it :-)

Please do take a look around, give us your feedback on the new site and we'll be in touch soon with more news and some gig dates.

Love and snuggles

Christmas 2011 Is Coming!

Why hello!

Merry Christmas you lovely lot! Hope this finds you well, anyway - how've you been? Over your little troubles now? We didn't tell anyone. Ahem.

Another fun year for us lot: we played our first Pride Parade, our first club and of course Clarence Park Music Festival which we've been dying to play almost since OP was formed back in the mid-90s. Cap'n B now has Judith The Keytar to keep him occupied while the grown ups talk; Dr Rock's digital mission-control is giving NASA sleepless nights of envy; Madame Bernard is blowing and singing as always (but not at the same time, that'd hurt); Grynn's wielding the axe of rock-blues across the log of disco and The Man In Black still does whatever it is he does back there in the shadows - who's this Cthulhu bloke anyway, can he play the drums?

We're also aware we haven't released much recently but we've got plans to start recording pretty imminently for releases during 2012. If you've come to some of our gigs during 2011 you'll have had a taster already - hope you like it!

Finally, we thought you might like to come to our annual Christmas gig!

It's this weekend 10th December 2011 at The Hop, Wakefield (a new venue for the Xmas do, and we get a proper sound engineer!). We're joined by two other acts Ultraxine and Poet & The Loops, all of whom are lovely lovely people (there's a short bio below of each band). Doors around 7:30pm, we hit the stage around 10pm, and owing to a drunken eBay-in-the-pub incident involving Cap'n B and The Man In Black there's free Santa hats while stocks last.

Facebook link HERE - go see!

Oh did we mention the gig's free-in as well? Howzat for a Christmas do! We know how to spoil you.

Have a great Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

Dr Rock, Bernard, Cap'n B, Grynn & MiB

Our Summer Of Lurrrve

Dear Donald and Karina,

Gosh, quite a tiring Summer but lots of fun! Thanks to everyone who came to see us at Clarence Park (where Cap'n B attempted to murder the drum machine), The Magnet (where said drum machine got its revenge), Wakefield Pride (where Grynn got his hair stroked) and Wakefield Wharfside Festival (where we ate chips). Four weeks in Wakefield and lots of excitement and fun!

We're not stopping here of course, that'd be silly: our next gig is in the sunny climes of Knottingley at The Railway Hotel on 11th September. We're told it's quite a nice venue and we'll have a good time, and it's free in on a Sunday late afternoon (no kids allowed tho).

Then we've already booked for our annual Christmas 'do', this time upstairs at our old haunt The Hop in Wakefield. We'll have other bands on with us, lots of friends and free Santa hats (after Cap'n B and The Man In Black bought a job-lot on eBay, the best advert against drunk eBaying ever). That's on 10th December, don't forget it or we'll glare.

In the meantime, we're back in the studio writing new stuff and gettin' the funk up...

Snogs,

Summer International Tour Of Wakefield 2011

Dear Boris and Elsie,

Good news!

We have a big pile of gigs coming up, all of which are in Wakefield. This is a bit accidental but there's a lot going on in the fair city and something for everyone:

Sat 31st July - Clarence Park Music Festival

Sat 6th August - The Magnet, Dewsbury Road, Wakefield, supporting our good pals The Tracks

Sun 15th August - Club Odyssey, Wakefield Precinct (used to be Downtown/The Beehive) as part of Wakefield Pride Not Prejudice 2011

Sat 20th August - Wakefield Wharfside Festival at The Wharfside Inn, Thornes

We didn't know about Clarence until yesterday, and unfortunately The Man In Black is away on holidays so it'll sound a bit different but there'll still be the funk and groove on.

We're proud to also be supporting our friends The Tracks at the gig at The Magnet on Dewsbury Road. It's our first 'Saturday Night Pub' gig and a bit of an experiment for us so please do come along and lend your support.

The gig for Pride Wakefield 2011 is ace news - again, a first for us as we do our first club night in celebration of diversity. We're on at 6pm after the main stage has finished and will be opening up a phenomenal night of dance grooviness.

Finally, we still don't know much about when we'll be on at the Wharfside Festival but watch this space (or indeed our gigs page!).

At least a couple of these gigs are likely to feature our new song 'Dad Dancing'. You'll love it :)

Lots of smoochies,

Long Division 2011 (And Other Fun)

Dear Derek and Marjorie,

Another couple of months pass in the life of Obvious Pseudonym...

Last week we were proud to be part of Long Division Festival 2011 in Wakefield performing (as ever) at The Hop's Guerilla Rooms venue: Cap'n B got the keytar out too. Thanks to everyone who came along: we've heard tons of lovely comments around how tight we're getting as a performing act. The rather lovely Dean Mitchell of Soulful Photography took some nice pics which are over here on his Flickr site.

Want to hear more? Madame Bernard is pimping us out to any festival who'll have us in the UK this year - if you're organising a festy and want us to come perform please get in touch and we'll most likely be able to do it subject to member holidays.

We've also been writing new material: not sure when it'll see the light of day yet but there's everything from political agit-pop to a potential James Bond theme in the works... we'll try and slip some new stuff into the set before the Summer's out.

So, anyway, how have you been?

New MP3s for you: "Fight The Anger" & "Me Me Me"

Dr Rockson and Cap'n B have been back in the studio to mix some of our new tracks in the rebuilt Cheese Factory Studio and we've decided to release two new stonking tunes which are completely different in style and tone but are equally popular at gigs!

They are...

Fight The Anger (Fight The Pain) - a storming electro-rock opus with wailing guitars and funksome bass, and also features the SIDstation (basically a Commodore 64's music chip in a tin box).

Me Me Me which more resembles a showtune than anything else, and has yours truly playing accordion.

You can get both of them from our Reverbnation page, our MySpace page, and of course as direct downloads on our official website.

We're wanting to gig a lot more too, hopefully have some news on that soon - stick around :P

Posted by capnb at 18:36 25 Apr 2011 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

The Beat Goes On

We did a lovely gig at Guerilla Rooms in Wakefield a couple of weeks ago - a quiet Wednesday all told but we performed the new song 'Killing Me' (yep, the one meant for a certain international Euro-esque song competition) and we were supported by Scott Anthony Wainwright, and a jazz-funk group called The Burns Band. We liked it, lovely and enjoyable.

Last week we released a brand new (and free!) mix of Baby Baby. You can get it from our Reverbnation page, or if you're still that way inclined then download it from MySpace! There's also a direct link to the MP3 on our music page - hooray!

And so into Summer, where we're looking to do a whole host of live dates at festivals and such - we'll do a full 'tour' announcement once it's all fallen into place. Meantime if you want to book us or fancy a bit of OP groove in your venue, drop us a line!

Posted by capnb at 16:15 28 Mar 2011 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Gig Alert! Yes, It's The Hop Again...

So after a few months of quietness in which we've been writing new music, we're back gigging from Wednesday 9th March where we will be headlining a night upstairs at The Hop, Wakefield alongside 'The Burns Band'. It's a great little venue upstairs, £3 in, doors at 8pm and we'll be on from about 10:15pm.

So have we been twiddling our thumbs? Have we bollocks, we've been busy recording Dr Rocksson's bass on stuff, and getting ready for a whole slew of demos which we'll release over the course of the next few months. Then we're looking at the album probably in September 2011 after the festival season.

We also wrote a song intended for a popular Europe-wide song contest, but it didn't get used so we're probably going to slip that into the set as well as release a studio version. It's called You're Killing Me and it's quite a smasher, so watch out for that soon.

So, anyway, how have you lot been? x

Posted by capnb at 16:14 23 Feb 2011 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Upcoming Gigs - Back On The Road!

Well it's been a few months since we last gigged, but we're back on the road again with some new songs!

You can catch us at the following venues:

18th November: Glory Bar, Leeds. Our first proper Leeds outing at this intimate little venue on Merrion Street next to Nash, just up from Leeds Grand Theatre.

2nd December: The Hop, Wakefield. Back to our old haunt for a Thursday night's post-shopping fun. Don't expect it to be acoustic either...

18th December: Henry Boon's, Wakefield. Our Christmas show, full of special guests and surprises. This is going to be a big one folks, something very special and probably not-to-be-repeated!

So, pop those in your diary and we'll see you there maybe? Hurrah!

Posted by capnb at 11:15 15 Oct 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

'Six Noises' EP Out On 25th June

After a hell of a lot of hard work and much wailing and gnashing of teeth, we're proud to announce The Six Noises EP is finally ready!

Featuring the talents of Sminky Hotsauce, Cap'n B, Madame Bernard, The Grynn and The Man In Black, it's a labour of love and at 25 minutes in length is longer than your average EP at six tracks, which are: Eclipsed, Sex Noises, Baby Baby, Coming Up On Empty, Westgate Run and of course Keith Chegwin For A Day. You can get it as digital download from iTunes; if you prefer physical CDs we'll be selling them at gigs, or you can order one by post for the princely sum of £6 (including postage) by following this link (you can pay via PayPal).

To launch the EP we're having a special EP launch party at Henry Boon's in Wakefield on Friday 25th June, alongside our special chums Shrood. It's bound to be a fantastic night with both bands, and of course we'll have EPs on sale there. You should totally come, we start at about 8:30pm and it's free in.

Then after that we're off on more gigs and jaunts... so keep an eye on our (new!) website for more info at www.AnagramOfHits.com!

Posted by capnb at 19:24 21 Jun 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Pedal To The Metal - Let's Go!

Goodness me we've been busy - but where to start, where to start?

OK, first off, we're now a five-piece band. Yep indeedy, we have the rather lovely JIM THE GRYNN on lead guitar - and it's changed our sound quite a bit making it a bit more rock-y and less strict. We all think it's worked well and look forward to releasing some new stuff so you can have a listen.

To introduce Jim, we performed our fourth (I think) jaunt at Escobar in Wakefield last Saturday. The reception was fantastic, you lot are lovely and so brilliant to see so many of you there again (and some OP virgins too!). Set list was: Eclipsed, Take Away The Tears, Sex Noises, Baby Baby, Coming Up On Empty, Disco Sauce, Westgate Run, and Keith Chegwin For A Day. Yeah we know we said we'd not do Cheggers again but I think we'd have got lynched if we'd not done it given the demand. There are also some lovely photos by Dean Mitchell and David Neville which you shouldn't miss, and Cap'n B took some before and after the gig which are here!

On the subject of Cheggers we've just given permission for it to be used in another telly programme, something about 'best-loved TV presenters'. We have absolutely no idea when it'll be aired or even if it'll be used but we'll let you know as soon as we do. Anyway, layabout satellite channel Dave is repeating Buzzcocks and Have I Got News every few weeks so we're hardly off the telly at the mo.

What else? Ah yes, we're performing at Clarence Park Solstice Festival on Saturday 19th June in Wakefield Park, probably sometime around 5pm. This will be a child-friendly set (no Sex Noises for a start) so you should come and chill out in the park with us, and occasionally get groovy. It's also free (you're spoilt, really, aren't you)! There's a Facebook event page if you're into that sort of thing.

Then on 25th June we are releasing our 6-track EP. This will be our first professional release which is being recorded now in Leeds. There's a few guest artists on it and I'm sure it'll be a stonking one. More about that (including a tracklist) closer to the time but more importantly we are launching it at Henry Boon's in Wakefield (Facebook event page) with our good pals from Shrood. Woohoo! This'll be a full 2-set gig where we'll do the whole card. Really, I know it's Glastonbury at the same time but you'll enjoy us more - honest ;)

Pluuuuuuuuus... we're hoping to announce some really good national dates over July/August soon so please do keep checking back :) We love you loads :D xxx

Posted by capnb at 11:52 20 Apr 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

In The Glow Of The Night

Thanks to the smashing and gorgeous people who came to our most recent jaunt at Escobar in Wakefield, a stonking night with lots of new fans and much joyfulness. We recorded it (badly) for posterity, but thanks to Cap'n B misusing the technology it doesn't sound very good and features the heckling of another band playing that night (shame on you, you bunch of gits). Still, if you want to listen you can grab a copy from Cap'n B's MP3 dump.

More recently we did a spot at The Hop's Open Mic Monday with zero notice and had a crack at a new song called 'Fight The Anger' which is really meant to be dance-y, but ended up in an acoustic version. More fun was the performance of 'Sex Noises' featuring 3/4 of our mates from Shrood: the lovely Rob on bongoes, Ryan Mitchell-Smith on harmonica, and Jim The Grynn on a stonking middle-8 guitar solo. Oh yeah baby, you missed a treat there.

We're now looking for gig bookings at the end of March onwards, and hoping to do a headline performance at the end of May 2010 when it'll be the first anniversary of our first live appearance. My my, we've grown!

Smooches to you all - we love you. x

Posted by capnb at 10:06 16 Feb 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

GIG ALERT: Saturday Night Fever at Escobar, Wakefield

Hot on the heels of saying 'we're not gigging for a bit' we got an offer to do another gig. Typical! So yeah baby, OBVIOUS PSEUDONYM are BACK with more LIVE FUNK at the heart of Wakefield on a Saturday night!

Put Saturday 6th February in your diaries and get yo' asses down to Escobar on Queen Street from 8:30pm (doors 8pm). There's a Facebook event page here.

No excuses to miss this (being a Saturday and all that) AND you've got plenty of time to arrange babysitters. We'll bring you some popular old favourites as well as maybe a couple of new groovesome songs. This is a FULL ELECTRIC GIG.

£3 in, and you can get tickets from the band in advance or on the door (but preferably from the band in advance so it goes down on our tick, pleeeeeeeease). Saturdays get BUSY, so make sure you come down for the ultimate atmosphere!

(It's not just us performing either - you get two other funksome bands Marmalade Sun and Escort Knights (a Dutch pop-disco act). Both sound ace!)

18+ gig, 8pm doors, 8:30pm on-stage. We rock.

Posted by capnb at 11:24 21 Jan 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Paddling Under The Surface

Occasionally we go very very quiet - it's not cos we're hunting wabbits, it's cos we're working on new songs and things!

We've taken a little break from gigging for a month or so to get new stuff written - really we don't want to just play the same songs over and over again, so new stuff is in the works. We might do a gig in February if we get asked, but so far there's nothing in the diary. It's giving Cap'n B a chance to learn the guitar too, which can't be a bad thing. Ya dig? Groovy.

Thanks for your extraordinary support as we carry on - lots of you got badge packs at the last Escobar gig in December and you enjoyed our Christmas remix of Disco Sauce too, perhaps we can get that in the charts next December. There's a few badges left so if you want one then drop us a line on the contact form with a 'hello' and your address, and we'll stick some in the post.

You might have noticed we've pushed the album release date back: we want to get this right, and with some of our strongest songs... ergo we are taking a little more time over it.

We're sure you understand, yeah? Good! Dig that funky music, daddy-o.

Posted by capnb at 11:44 12 Jan 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Christmas Gig At Escobar Wakefield Next Monday - Plus Free S

Four days to go until our final gig of the year at Escobar in Wakefield - are you excited? We bloody are!

We're on at 9:45pm, sharing a bill with Sarah Mac and Goggle-Eyed Psycho. Both are great acts and with us sandwiched in the middle it'll be a veritable eclectic orgy of sound. It's £3 in and you can get tickets in advance from the band (we'll leave someone near the door if you want to pick them up).

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! We've got some Christmas prezzies for fans - get a ticket from us, get a prezzie. These may yet become collectibles so get your thang on and drop us a line (you can paypal ticket cost to us if you want to at pp@wrenthorpe.net - remember to put your name and address if you want them posting). Or just get a ticket on the door and come yell 'PREZZIE!' at us, you can even do a funny little dance for our amusement (but that bit's optional).

We're playing some new stuff. We're playing some old stuff. It's a veritable variety of audio and since we're on later you've got more time to drink yourselves silly first. See, we're hung like Donkey Kong.

There's a Facebook event page here for which you may find out more details but really... there's only one place to be on Monday and that's at Escobar groovin' down to the Sound of the Pseudonym, baby!

Posted by capnb at 13:34 10 Dec 2009 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

The Hop Gig Review, And The Next One

We did a few songs at The Hop's 'Open Mic' night last night. The set opened with our new song Baby Baby followed by Sex Noises (featuring Ryan on harmonica), Dancefish, Coming Up On Empty and Westgate Run. It marked another evolution in our performance - no more computer on stage, and The Man In Black worked out a different way to amplify his guitar. Just remember, Jesus can't do that.

(Did you remember to bring your banana? Thought not.)

We do have to tender an apology though: there was some disappointment Madame Bernard was not wearing her leopard-skin stilettos. There is a reason for this, it was too bloody cold! She's resolved to get a warmer pair for when we're doing those cooler appearances, so don't fear they'll be there on 14th December.

Ah yes, the Monday 14th December gig at Escobar! We're on at 9:15pm and will be playing a 40-minute set. It's £3 in and you are strongly recommended to get tickets from the band in advance if you possibly can please. Escobar's just down from Argos in Wakefield, we've played there a couple of times this year and it's usually a pretty good sound (they have competent dedicated sound engineers)...

Work continues apace on the album, plus we're planning another single release before Christmas. Over 24,000 folks have downloaded Westgate Run and Sex Noises, an insane amount considering you only need 10,000 iTunes downloads to get in the UK charts (and yes, we'll be on there soon enough).

And we can't tell you the really big news yet...

Posted by capnb at 13:44 01 Dec 2009 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

GIG ALERT: The Hop, Wakefield 30/11/09

Doing anything this evening, darlings?

We're crashing Open Mic Monday at The Hop in Wakefield tonight. We'll be on about 9:15pm and it's usually pretty busy so come early if you want a seat. We'll be doing our new song Baby Baby (which isn't even recorded yet), as well as a few songs we've done before. Bring your dancing pants, we're gonna RAWK!

And in other news, @inventpartners over on Twitter brought it to our attention that secondhand repeat channel Dave (aka 'the Oxfam of satellite telly') repeated the Cheggers episode of 'Have I Got News For You' last night. Our notoriety reaches the masses once more...!

Also hi to the new fans we met in Bar Zeus in Wakefield last weekend. You really are lovely people :) If you want us to play there, all you have to do is ask... :)

Posted by capnb at 10:43 30 Nov 2009 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com
