'Six Noises' EP Out On 25th June

After a hell of a lot of hard work and much wailing and gnashing of teeth, we're proud to announce The Six Noises EP is finally ready!

Featuring the talents of Sminky Hotsauce, Cap'n B, Madame Bernard, The Grynn and The Man In Black, it's a labour of love and at 25 minutes in length is longer than your average EP at six tracks, which are: Eclipsed, Sex Noises, Baby Baby, Coming Up On Empty, Westgate Run and of course Keith Chegwin For A Day. You can get it as digital download from iTunes; if you prefer physical CDs we'll be selling them at gigs, or you can order one by post for the princely sum of £6 (including postage) by following this link (you can pay via PayPal).

To launch the EP we're having a special EP launch party at Henry Boon's in Wakefield on Friday 25th June, alongside our special chums Shrood. It's bound to be a fantastic night with both bands, and of course we'll have EPs on sale there. You should totally come, we start at about 8:30pm and it's free in.

Then after that we're off on more gigs and jaunts... so keep an eye on our (new!) website for more info at www.AnagramOfHits.com!

Posted by capnb at 19:24 21 Jun 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Pedal To The Metal - Let's Go!

Goodness me we've been busy - but where to start, where to start?

OK, first off, we're now a five-piece band. Yep indeedy, we have the rather lovely JIM THE GRYNN on lead guitar - and it's changed our sound quite a bit making it a bit more rock-y and less strict. We all think it's worked well and look forward to releasing some new stuff so you can have a listen.

To introduce Jim, we performed our fourth (I think) jaunt at Escobar in Wakefield last Saturday. The reception was fantastic, you lot are lovely and so brilliant to see so many of you there again (and some OP virgins too!). Set list was: Eclipsed, Take Away The Tears, Sex Noises, Baby Baby, Coming Up On Empty, Disco Sauce, Westgate Run, and Keith Chegwin For A Day. Yeah we know we said we'd not do Cheggers again but I think we'd have got lynched if we'd not done it given the demand. There are also some lovely photos by Dean Mitchell and David Neville which you shouldn't miss, and Cap'n B took some before and after the gig which are here!

On the subject of Cheggers we've just given permission for it to be used in another telly programme, something about 'best-loved TV presenters'. We have absolutely no idea when it'll be aired or even if it'll be used but we'll let you know as soon as we do. Anyway, layabout satellite channel Dave is repeating Buzzcocks and Have I Got News every few weeks so we're hardly off the telly at the mo.

What else? Ah yes, we're performing at Clarence Park Solstice Festival on Saturday 19th June in Wakefield Park, probably sometime around 5pm. This will be a child-friendly set (no Sex Noises for a start) so you should come and chill out in the park with us, and occasionally get groovy. It's also free (you're spoilt, really, aren't you)! There's a Facebook event page if you're into that sort of thing.

Then on 25th June we are releasing our 6-track EP. This will be our first professional release which is being recorded now in Leeds. There's a few guest artists on it and I'm sure it'll be a stonking one. More about that (including a tracklist) closer to the time but more importantly we are launching it at Henry Boon's in Wakefield (Facebook event page) with our good pals from Shrood. Woohoo! This'll be a full 2-set gig where we'll do the whole card. Really, I know it's Glastonbury at the same time but you'll enjoy us more - honest ;)

Pluuuuuuuuus... we're hoping to announce some really good national dates over July/August soon so please do keep checking back :) We love you loads :D xxx

Posted by capnb at 11:52 20 Apr 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

In The Glow Of The Night

Thanks to the smashing and gorgeous people who came to our most recent jaunt at Escobar in Wakefield, a stonking night with lots of new fans and much joyfulness. We recorded it (badly) for posterity, but thanks to Cap'n B misusing the technology it doesn't sound very good and features the heckling of another band playing that night (shame on you, you bunch of gits). Still, if you want to listen you can grab a copy from Cap'n B's MP3 dump.

More recently we did a spot at The Hop's Open Mic Monday with zero notice and had a crack at a new song called 'Fight The Anger' which is really meant to be dance-y, but ended up in an acoustic version. More fun was the performance of 'Sex Noises' featuring 3/4 of our mates from Shrood: the lovely Rob on bongoes, Ryan Mitchell-Smith on harmonica, and Jim The Grynn on a stonking middle-8 guitar solo. Oh yeah baby, you missed a treat there.

We're now looking for gig bookings at the end of March onwards, and hoping to do a headline performance at the end of May 2010 when it'll be the first anniversary of our first live appearance. My my, we've grown!

Smooches to you all - we love you. x

Posted by capnb at 10:06 16 Feb 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

GIG ALERT: Saturday Night Fever at Escobar, Wakefield

Hot on the heels of saying 'we're not gigging for a bit' we got an offer to do another gig. Typical! So yeah baby, OBVIOUS PSEUDONYM are BACK with more LIVE FUNK at the heart of Wakefield on a Saturday night!

Put Saturday 6th February in your diaries and get yo' asses down to Escobar on Queen Street from 8:30pm (doors 8pm). There's a Facebook event page here.

No excuses to miss this (being a Saturday and all that) AND you've got plenty of time to arrange babysitters. We'll bring you some popular old favourites as well as maybe a couple of new groovesome songs. This is a FULL ELECTRIC GIG.

£3 in, and you can get tickets from the band in advance or on the door (but preferably from the band in advance so it goes down on our tick, pleeeeeeeease). Saturdays get BUSY, so make sure you come down for the ultimate atmosphere!

(It's not just us performing either - you get two other funksome bands Marmalade Sun and Escort Knights (a Dutch pop-disco act). Both sound ace!)

18+ gig, 8pm doors, 8:30pm on-stage. We rock.

Posted by capnb at 11:24 21 Jan 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Paddling Under The Surface

Occasionally we go very very quiet - it's not cos we're hunting wabbits, it's cos we're working on new songs and things!

We've taken a little break from gigging for a month or so to get new stuff written - really we don't want to just play the same songs over and over again, so new stuff is in the works. We might do a gig in February if we get asked, but so far there's nothing in the diary. It's giving Cap'n B a chance to learn the guitar too, which can't be a bad thing. Ya dig? Groovy.

Thanks for your extraordinary support as we carry on - lots of you got badge packs at the last Escobar gig in December and you enjoyed our Christmas remix of Disco Sauce too, perhaps we can get that in the charts next December. There's a few badges left so if you want one then drop us a line on the contact form with a 'hello' and your address, and we'll stick some in the post.

You might have noticed we've pushed the album release date back: we want to get this right, and with some of our strongest songs... ergo we are taking a little more time over it.

We're sure you understand, yeah? Good! Dig that funky music, daddy-o.

Posted by capnb at 11:44 12 Jan 2010 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Christmas Gig At Escobar Wakefield Next Monday - Plus Free S

Four days to go until our final gig of the year at Escobar in Wakefield - are you excited? We bloody are!

We're on at 9:45pm, sharing a bill with Sarah Mac and Goggle-Eyed Psycho. Both are great acts and with us sandwiched in the middle it'll be a veritable eclectic orgy of sound. It's £3 in and you can get tickets in advance from the band (we'll leave someone near the door if you want to pick them up).

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! We've got some Christmas prezzies for fans - get a ticket from us, get a prezzie. These may yet become collectibles so get your thang on and drop us a line (you can paypal ticket cost to us if you want to at pp@wrenthorpe.net - remember to put your name and address if you want them posting). Or just get a ticket on the door and come yell 'PREZZIE!' at us, you can even do a funny little dance for our amusement (but that bit's optional).

We're playing some new stuff. We're playing some old stuff. It's a veritable variety of audio and since we're on later you've got more time to drink yourselves silly first. See, we're hung like Donkey Kong.

There's a Facebook event page here for which you may find out more details but really... there's only one place to be on Monday and that's at Escobar groovin' down to the Sound of the Pseudonym, baby!

Posted by capnb at 13:34 10 Dec 2009 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

The Hop Gig Review, And The Next One

We did a few songs at The Hop's 'Open Mic' night last night. The set opened with our new song Baby Baby followed by Sex Noises (featuring Ryan on harmonica), Dancefish, Coming Up On Empty and Westgate Run. It marked another evolution in our performance - no more computer on stage, and The Man In Black worked out a different way to amplify his guitar. Just remember, Jesus can't do that.

(Did you remember to bring your banana? Thought not.)

We do have to tender an apology though: there was some disappointment Madame Bernard was not wearing her leopard-skin stilettos. There is a reason for this, it was too bloody cold! She's resolved to get a warmer pair for when we're doing those cooler appearances, so don't fear they'll be there on 14th December.

Ah yes, the Monday 14th December gig at Escobar! We're on at 9:15pm and will be playing a 40-minute set. It's £3 in and you are strongly recommended to get tickets from the band in advance if you possibly can please. Escobar's just down from Argos in Wakefield, we've played there a couple of times this year and it's usually a pretty good sound (they have competent dedicated sound engineers)...

Work continues apace on the album, plus we're planning another single release before Christmas. Over 24,000 folks have downloaded Westgate Run and Sex Noises, an insane amount considering you only need 10,000 iTunes downloads to get in the UK charts (and yes, we'll be on there soon enough).

And we can't tell you the really big news yet...

Posted by capnb at 13:44 01 Dec 2009 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

GIG ALERT: The Hop, Wakefield 30/11/09

Doing anything this evening, darlings?

We're crashing Open Mic Monday at The Hop in Wakefield tonight. We'll be on about 9:15pm and it's usually pretty busy so come early if you want a seat. We'll be doing our new song Baby Baby (which isn't even recorded yet), as well as a few songs we've done before. Bring your dancing pants, we're gonna RAWK!

And in other news, @inventpartners over on Twitter brought it to our attention that secondhand repeat channel Dave (aka 'the Oxfam of satellite telly') repeated the Cheggers episode of 'Have I Got News For You' last night. Our notoriety reaches the masses once more...!

Also hi to the new fans we met in Bar Zeus in Wakefield last weekend.
New MP3: WESTGATE RUN - Top Disco!

It's Friday, so to cheer up your weekend we've just released our new disco tune WESTGATE RUN!

It's got a stomping dance beat with an orchestral electro-synth sound reminiscent of Chic, Dan Hartman and Donna Summer. It's got sailing vocals from Madame Bernard, the lugubrious singing of Mr Sminky Hotsauce, keyboard warblings of Cap'n B and funky guitar from The Man In Black. What more could you want?

Frankly, we reckon the infectious beat and high-energy guitar conjures up visions of dancing round your handbag on a Saturday night, knocking back a few bevvies as you let the week fall away behind you without a care. Taxiiiiiii!

You can download WESTGATE RUN by clicking here. You can also listen to it on our Myspace site and our Facebook page.

Copy it, send it to your mates, share it around - get down with Obvious Pseudonym!

(Don't forget we're also live in Wakefield on 30th November and 14th December. Take a look at our gig guide to find out more!)

Posted by capnb at 12:34 20 Nov 2009 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Two Upcoming Gigs In Wakefield

We've got two forthcoming appearances in Wakefield coming up!

On Monday 30th November we're going to do a short(ish) set at The Hop, to try out new songs and see how they go down. If you're a hardcore Pseudomaniac then it's unmissable - come along to hear some of our brand spanking new stuff. We're on about 9:30pm-ish. Facebook event page here.

Then on Monday 14th December we've been asked back to Escobar for another 40-minute set as part of the 'Louder Than Bombs' unsigned bands night. We'll be tainting the place with our own unique brand of cheese disco-pop and it's an ideal refuge from the havoc of Christmas. £3 on the door, we're on at 9:15pm-ish. There's a Facebook event page for it here.

We're also aiming to release a copy of Westgate Run in early December, ready for your Christmas parties. We's gonna rock yo' house, dawg (apparently).

Posted by capnb at 16:09 17 Nov 2009 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

Fancy Being On Cheggers?

We know we can't get away without putting our most famous song on the album, so it's time to bite the bullet.

The original recording is almost ten years old - we put it together in The Man In Black's flat in Wakefield which we temporarily turned into a recording studio some years back. The girls went off shopping (remember we had a bit of a different lineup back then) and then we double-tracked the chorus. With the advent of computer recording a couple of years ago I revisited the whole track and bolstered the chorus. That said, I'm still not happy.

So I had this stupid idea, y'know the sort, when you get drunk and fall over lots and think 'what a good idea': let's get a load of Obvious Pseudonym fans into a room above a pub and record them joining in on the chorus of 'Keith Chegwin For A Day'. With me so far?

Well after I mentioned it on Twitter I had some good responses back - so much so that it looks like we're actually doing two sessions, one up north (probably Wakefield) and one in London. They will probably happen in the first week of December and be accompanied by a short set and a few quid behind the bar so folks who turn up can have a drink on us.

Keep an eye on the site and the Twitter feed for more info, it may be fairly short notice (a couple of days) as we haven't got a venue yet (anyone volunteering their local pub?). Watch this space and all that!

Posted by capnb at 11:34 13 Nov 2009 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com

On The Album Release Date...

You might have noticed (or more likely not at all) that we've put the album launch back a month. This is principally because The Man In Black got glandular fever and was a write-off for four weeks, so we're behind in our recording duties - but NEVER FEAR 'cos we're back up to full strength now and will bring you news of our studio fun in the coming weeks.

New release date is 18th January (the day before Bernard's birthday, remember to get her a card) with a launch gig on Saturday 23rd January... hopefully, fingers crossed, and toes of course.

The other interesting bit of news is that we're planning a Christmas gig, something in between Christmas Day and New Year - y'know, the perinaeum of the year. Unconfirmed and we haven't got a venue yet but I'm sure it'll all come together, it usually does.

Other than that we haven't got anything booked for the rest of the year although that's not to say we won't go performing if someone wants a bit of disco, baby. Big it up for Obvious Pseudonym!

Posted by capnb at 16:47 11 Nov 2009 - originally posted to www.anagramofhits.com
